Malaysia has some of the best gravel terrain in Southeast Asia — palm and rubber plantations, old tin-mining roads, kampung backroads, jungle fire trails. We're mapping it route by route, starting in Perak.

Papan to Hutan Lipur Falls

Papan, Perak

10km out-and-back 55m elev. 90% paved · 10% gravel

A short, easy 10km out-and-back from Papan town up to Hutan Lipur Papan waterfall. Mostly road, gentle climb, passes through one of the prettiest ghost towns in Perak with limestone valley views all the way to the falls.

Sungai Kinta Gravel: Ipoh ↔ Batu Gajah

Ipoh / Batu Gajah, Perak

42km out-and-back 75m elev. 50% paved · 50% gravel

A 42km out-and-back gravel run (21km each way) along the Sungai Kinta from Ipoh to Silverlakes Village in Batu Gajah. Limestone bund tracks and kampung tarmac, mostly flat, easy. The tin-mining heritage corridor of the Kinta Valley — finished with coffee at SUS in Silverlakes.

Ulu Kinta Dam Gravel Loop

Ulu Kinta, Perak

15km 200m elev. 50% paved · 50% gravel

A 15km mixed-surface gravel loop from Lombong Timah Ulu Kinta park up the access road towards the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam. Roughly 50/50 tarmac and gravel, with a few deceptively slippery sections from watershed runoff.
