The Selangor Century Ride is the traditional season-closer for the Klang Valley’s cycling community, offering one last opportunity to notch a century ride before the year ends. Starting from Padang Timur in the heart of Petaling Jaya, this well-organised sportive takes riders north into the quieter parts of Selangor, away from the urban congestion and onto the scenic roads that have made the state a popular training ground.
The 160km route heads north through Rawang and Kuala Kubu Bharu, skirting the base of the Titiwangsa range before looping back via Hulu Selangor. The rolling terrain through the northern districts provides a genuine challenge, with several climbs through fruit orchards and dusun (plantations). The 100km option follows a similar route but turns back earlier at Serendah, while the 50km route stays on the flatter roads around Rawang and Sungai Buloh.
December is typically dry in Selangor, making for reliable riding conditions. The event draws a strong field of several thousand riders, creating a festive atmosphere as the peloton rolls through the countryside. Post-ride celebrations at Padang Timur feature a year-end awards ceremony for the Selangor Cycling Federation’s annual series, food trucks, and live entertainment. This is a great event for riders wanting to set a personal target or complete their first century ride.
