Sabah MTB Enduro Series Round 1 2026

The Sabah MTB Enduro Series brings gravity racing to Borneo’s challenging volcanic terrain. The Donggongon Trail Park, located in the foothills south of Kota Kinabalu, offers trails carved through dense tropical vegetation on volcanic soil that creates a unique riding surface. Five timed stages test different aspects of enduro riding, from steep technical descents to fast, flowing trail sections.

The five stages range from 2-5 minutes in timed duration, with liaison stages requiring approximately 600m of climbing on forest roads and trails. Stage 1 is a technical root-fest through primary jungle, Stage 2 a fast flow trail with berms and small jumps, Stage 3 the most physically demanding with a steep rocky descent, Stage 4 features exposed volcanic rock slabs, and Stage 5 is the crowd favourite, a fast, open descent to the finish area with optional gap jumps.

A full-suspension enduro bike with 150-170mm travel is strongly recommended. The volcanic soil becomes extremely slippery when wet, so aggressive tyres with soft compounds are essential. The series runs three rounds per year at different venues across Sabah, with overall series prizes. Saturday practice is available on all stages. Kota Kinabalu’s growing trail network and the Sabah Gravity Racing community have positioned the state as one of the most exciting emerging MTB destinations in Southeast Asia.
