The Gopeng Gravel Adventure takes advantage of the extensive network of unpaved roads and trails in Perak’s premier adventure tourism district. Gopeng, nestled between limestone karst hills and the Kinta Valley, has become a hub for outdoor activities including white-water rafting, caving, and now gravel cycling. The region’s mining heritage has left behind a network of laterite roads and tracks that are perfect for gravel bikes.
The 80km route explores the full breadth of the Gopeng area, passing through abandoned tin mines now transformed into tranquil lakes, beneath towering limestone cliffs, alongside the rapids of the Kampar River, and through Orang Asli settlements in the jungle fringe. Key highlights include the stunning Gua Tempurung cave entrance (Malaysia’s longest cave), the historic tin dredge at Tanjung Tualang, and a riverside section where riders may spot monitor lizards and kingfishers. The 45km route covers the most scenic sections around Gopeng town.
Gravel or adventure bikes with 38mm+ tyres are suitable for most of the route. Some sections of loose laterite and river-stone trails may benefit from wider tyres. The terrain is gently rolling rather than mountainous, making this one of the more accessible gravel events in Malaysia. Post-ride, Gopeng’s heritage town centre features charming coffee shops and the famous Gopeng fried noodles. The area is easily accessible from Ipoh (20 minutes) or KL (2 hours).
