The Negeri Sembilan Gran Fondo delivers some of Peninsular Malaysia’s best riding on the hilly backroads south of Kuala Lumpur. Negeri Sembilan’s undulating terrain, shaped by ancient volcanic activity, provides constant climbing and descending that makes this gran fondo more demanding than the distance alone might suggest. The cultural landscape is equally rich, with distinctive Minangkabau-style architecture featuring sweeping buffalo-horn rooflines adorning homes and public buildings.
The 130km route is a true test, featuring the main climb to Bukit Putus (a 6km ascent with sustained 6-7% gradients), followed by rolling terrain through the districts of Kuala Pilah and Jelebu. The route passes through durian orchards, rubber estates, and traditional Minangkabau villages where time seems to have stood still. The 90km option includes Bukit Putus but takes a shorter return route, while the 45km category stays on the gentler roads closer to Seremban.
Seremban is just 60km from KL, making it one of the most accessible event destinations in the country. The city is famous for its siew pao (baked buns) and crab noodles, both of which feature prominently at the post-ride food area. The event village at Seremban City Park offers bike wash facilities, massage services, and a cycling marketplace. Many riders use the event as a training benchmark for their end-of-year cycling goals.
