The Malaysia National Road Cycling Championships is the most prestigious domestic road race on the calendar, where riders battle for the right to wear the distinctive national champion’s jersey for the following year. The 2026 edition is held in Terengganu, a state with a proud cycling heritage and roads ideally suited to championship racing.
Day 1 features the individual time trial on a flat, fast 40km out-and-back course along the coastal highway. The exposed coastal road can be affected by crosswinds, adding a technical dimension to the race of truth. Day 2 is the road race, with the elite men’s peloton covering 180km on a circuit that includes a rolling inland section through the Marang district before returning to Kuala Terengganu for a circuit finish. The elite women race 120km on a modified version of the same course.
Age-group categories from Under-15 to Masters 60+ race on both days, making this an inclusive event despite its championship status. Terengganu has invested heavily in cycling infrastructure and regularly hosts national-level events, ensuring excellent road conditions and local support. For spectators, the circuit finish in central Kuala Terengganu provides multiple opportunities to watch the decisive final laps. The championship weekend doubles as a celebration of Malaysian cycling, with a trade show and community activities running alongside the racing.
