The Kuching City Community Ride is Sarawak’s biggest recreational cycling event, celebrating the cycling-friendly character of Malaysia’s cleanest and most liveable city. Starting from the iconic Kuching Waterfront along the Sarawak River, this event is designed to be inclusive and fun, welcoming riders of all ages and abilities, from toddlers in child seats to grandparents on folding bikes.
The 40km route follows the river upstream through the historic Astana and Fort Margherita area, continues through the modern development of Stutong, and returns via the coastal road at Damai. The 20km route stays closer to the city centre, looping through the charming streets of the old town, past the Chinese History Museum, and along the riverside promenade. Both routes are flat and well-marshalled with road closures.
Kuching’s compact size and flat terrain make it one of Malaysia’s most naturally cycling-friendly cities, and this event celebrates that character. The post-ride festival at the Waterfront features live music, traditional Sarawakian food stalls (do not miss the laksa Sarawak), and a cycling marketplace. The event coincides with the Kuching City Day celebrations, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the weekend.
